Oxidizer Equipment most efficient route to pollution controls.

Any business or manufacturer employing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), nitrogen oxide (NOx) will inherently encounter process abatement needs to remain in compliance with local, state and federal environmental codes. And since the 1970s, the most efficient and proven technology for these pollution control systems has come in the form of oxidizer equipment. Through several specific varieties, oxidizer equipment insures the complete conversion of these highly controlled and regulated chemicals into manageable outflow, typically as carbon dioxide and water vapor. Not only that, but oxidizer equipment typically uses regenerative properties to recapture heat in the oxidization process for continued use – up to ninety-five percent efficiency can be achieved. For any business in need of process abatement, oxidizer equipment is likely the standard solution.

The first type of oxidizer equipment found typically used in process abatement for regulated pollutants and particulates is the regenerative thermal oxidizer. This oxidizer uses a heating process across stacked ceramic media that oxidizes and VOCs found in exhaust from the manufacturing process. These VOCs actually are used as a fuel source in perpetuating the heat across the media, hence the ‘regenerative’ designation. Industries that typically use this oxidizer equipment include chemical and pharmaceutical, paint finishing and coating, as well as printing presses.

A second type of oxidizer equipment is the regenerative catalytic oxidizer. Similar to the regenerative thermal oxidizer, this oxidizer equipment uses a heating and transfer process to decompose VOCs and other abatement materials in a controlled chamber. The difference in the abatement process with a regenerative thermal oxidizer is a second stage of oxidization across a catalytic medium in a controlled chamber. This allows for lower temperature oxidization, saving on cost with lower fuel and high efficiency. A regenerative catalytic oxidizer is among the lowest operational cost oxidizer equipment available.

Other types of oxidizer equipment include recuperative thermal oxidizers and direct-fired thermal oxidizers. The recuperative thermal oxidizer uses technology to bring VOCs through an ignition chamber, exposing the gas to air temperatures of 1,000-2,200 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 2.5 seconds. This will destroy 99.9 percent of pollutants upon the pass. This oxidizer equipment will also recover up to ninety-five percent of heat exchanged in the abatement process. The direct-fired thermal oxidizer is also referred to as an afterburner. This oxidizer equipment, as the name describes, directly burns off VOCs with ninety-nine percent efficiency.
