Alternative Energy sources and Industrial Energy Conservation Saves Air Quality


With the expanded fields of alternative energy, there are more options than ever for industrial businesses to save money and the environment with upgrades to energy generation and integrated energy recycling techniques in their manufacturing process. The savings of energy in the industrial process, whether through the use of new energy-saving techniques in the actual manufacturing or through alternative energy sources, promises to deliver better environmental returns than any personal measure possibly could. With the scale of industrial energy use, conservation and alternative sources are among the best means to save air quality and conserve fuel.

One of the alternative means of energy easily available to manufacturers in sunny climates is integrated solar energy within the confines of a production plant. Depending on the scope and energy needs of plant, the use of photovoltaic cells throughout the roofing material would create considerable amounts of energy. The second source of energy found in the industrial process comes in the use of heat recovery steam generators. These generators convert recaptured energy from thermal heating equipment in the industrial process to boil water and create steam. That steam turns a turbine to create electricity. In some applications, the power expelled from thermal heating equipment can be recaptured with nearly 90 percent efficiency in the form of electrical energy. This not only can save entire industrial operations money, but also provides surplus power to the grid. Imagine the smiles in the accounting department if they got a check from the power company.

The final method of energy savings can come in pollution control systems. Many of these systems – including thermal oxidizers and thermal heating equipment – use vast amounts of heat to destroy airborne pollutants before exhausted into the atmosphere. But many of these technologies now include regenerative and catalytic reactions within thermal heating equipment. These processes eliminate the need for constant fueling in the incineration of pollutants and can even lower temperature to drive down the cost further.
